SRQ Welcomes Rochelle Nigri, Contributing Fashion Editor

IMG_2258-EditSRQ Media is pleased to announce the newest editorial contributor, Rochelle Nigri, who will be joining the team as the Contributing Fashion Editor. In her role, Rochelle will be working with SRQ initially on a fashion shoot for the September Hot List edition of SRQ Magazine, and will then be penning an ongoing fashion column titled Dress Code beginning with the October edition. Her column will have the approach that fashion can be relatable. Of her decision to write from that approach Rochelle said, “Whether we want to admit it or not we all enjoy receiving compliments on the way that we look. Fashion and the way that we dress are key elements of that equation, and they can be easily accessible when broken down”.

After graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Relations, Rochelle went on to work with esteemed companies such as Wells Fargo, Saks Fifth Avenue, and even for SRQ Media Group as our former Client Services Director. “Working with SRQ set the stage for my love of Sarasota and made it clear why so many individuals and companies move here. The opportunity to live your best life per Oprah’s mantra happens here,” Rochelle said. She currently coordinates the marketing at a financial institution. During her time living in Sarasota, Rochelle has participated in numerous organizations such as the Sarasota Young Professionals Group, Member of the board of trustees for Girls Inc. of Sarasota, and Member of the advisory board of directors for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & Northern Florida. You can follow her on social media on Instagram @rochellenigri and Twitter @rochellenigri. Welcome back, Rochelle!

On Sunday July 27, 2014, SRQ Media’s Client Development Manager Ashley Ryan volunteered at Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization. Staffed 99% by caring volunteers, Nate’s provides rescued dogs and cats with a safe sheltered environment while they wait to be adopted into their very own forever homes.

Said Ryan, attending and training in the Nate’s Animal Honor Rescue Orientation was a perfect way to spend a Sunday! Thanks to the puppies you see in the pictures, I have now completed the Volunteer Level 3 canine training! Without the help of volunteers, these adorable adoptees would not be able to find their Forever homes. I am thrilled to now be a part of the Honor Animal Rescue Volunteer team!”

SRQ Bal Masqué Performance Partner Preview: Fuzión Dance Artists

On Saturday, July 26, 2014, SRQ Media’s Marketing and Accounts Development Director Kelly Christiansen and Marketing Associate Devon Tallman attended a dress rehearsal performed by SRQ’s Bal Masqué performance partner, Fuzión Dance Artists.

As the dancers stretched and warmed up, Christiansen spoke with President of the Board, Muriel Gordon Mayers. (Coincidentally, they had already met as neighbors when Christiansen relocated to Sarasota from Chicago this spring.) In 2006, when Fuzión Dance was founded, Mayers was asked to become part of the Board of Directors, so Fuzión Dance Artists could continue as a professional contemporary dance company.

Mayers said, “I asked one question, ‘Do they look professional?’ and when I saw them, I was blown away by the quality and creativity and have been with it ever since. They have developed into a strong professional dance company and they are the modern dance company in this community.”

For this particular rehearsal, Kira Blazek, dancer, teacher, and choreographer provided guidance to the dancers. With every lift, twist, and turn the dancers made, Blazek noted the strengths and weaknesses of the dance, and presented her guidance to the dancers at the end of the performance. Among the performers was Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, the Artistic Director, Co-Founder, Choreographer, and Community Outreach Coordinator of Fuzión Dance Artists, who Blazek said helped her make the decision to collaborate with Fuzión Dance Artists in Sarasota.

Blazek said, “Leymis came to one of my classes in New York and said, ‘come to Sarasota.’ And we have been in partnership ever since. This company attitude is so warm. It is like a family here.”

SRQ Bal Masqué Performance Partner Preview: Sarasota Cuban Ballet

photo

On October 4, 2014, the Sarasota Cuban Ballet will join SRQ Media as one of the performance partners for our highly anticipated Bal Masqué gala. Of the partnership, SRQ Bal Masqué Event Producer Ashley Ryan said, “We are all looking forward to an elegant evening to enjoy the performances of incredibly talented artists in our community and raise funds for local charities. It is such an honor to have the SCB performing again this year. This is a company that I hold very dear to my heart! I cannot wait to see what they have in store for our guests this year!”

To get a preview at what is in store for guests at Bal Masqué, SRQ Media’s Client Development Manager Ashley Ryan, Marketing and Accounts Development Director Kelly Christiansen, Production Assistant Chase Spicer and Advertising and Events Assistant Chloe Weber stopped by a rehearsal and dove into the world of pirouettes and tutus at the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School.

The act on hand was a rehearsal of the Sarasota Cuban Ballet’s August 1st performance “On Stage with Sarasota Cuban Ballet School” at the Sarasota Opera House, the same venue the school will wow our guests at during Bal Masqué.

As time progressed throughout the rehearsal, more and more dancers filed in wearing full costume. Routines suddenly became longer and music became more dramatic, as we were transported to the front row seats of a professional ballet performance. It is almost hard to believe that these dancers aren’t even out of high school yet.

“Everything they do is fantastic, and they are all 18 and under,” said Ariel Serrano, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Sarasota Cuban Ballet School. “This is as close as you can get to professionals.”

Besides the astounding level of talent, the most refreshing thing about watching this rehearsal was seeing the amount of love and encouragement present between the students and teachers. When an individual or couple had the floor, every instructor in the room was attentive and continuously giving pointers and praise. Likewise, the room filled with clapping when whoever was dancing nailed a difficult move.
