SRQ MEDIA is officially kicking off season with our annual philanthropy awards evening GOOD | GALA – The Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 8pm to midnight recognizing non-profit achievements and innovation. Join us at the Historic Sarasota Opera House in downtown Sarasota for an evening of giving good stories highlighted by performances of live music, contemporary dance, circus arts and visual art installations featuring Main Stage performances by the Artist Series, Moving Ethos, The Players, Sarasota Contemporary Dance, Sarasota Orchestra, Swingtide Combo and the Circus Arts Conservatory.

Before the curtain opens, a tempting spread of inspired bites provided by Boca Kitchen will fill the Opera House with sustainable, fresh, local flavors for the discerning palate.

The Independent Spirit Awards
Juried by notable figures in Florida’s engaged philanthropic network, The Independent Spirit Awards recognize innovation, sustainability and integrity in our region’s non-profit sector. Organizations are nominated by readers who share their good story with us. These stories capture the ways in which each non-profit positively impacted a life, a family or a friend through hope, inspiration and caring. Finalists and winners in each of the following categories will be announced and recognized on stage: animal welfare, children and families, arts and culture, education, medicine and health and human services.

We would like to give special recognition to Mariash Lowther Wealth Management as the presenting sponsor for the Children and Families
category of the Independent Spirit Awards.  As a company, our mission is to educate, connect and contribute. This event is a great opportunity for us to do all three as we connect with many of the great nonprofits in town all in one room, contribute to the gift of recognition as well as educate the community on all the good that is being done here every day, said  Senior Vice President of Wealth Management Brian Mariash.

Share your good story and help us honor our non-profits by going clicking here.

Supporting Giving Back Locally
The soul of the SRQ GOOD | GALA is a one-of-a-kind celebration, but at its heart is the Sarasota and Bradenton community. A portion of ticket proceeds from the GOOD | GALA will be set aside through the SRQ Media Gives Back Foundation to benefit each of the winners of the SRQ Independent Spirit Awards (SRQISA). Aside from monetary support, Independent Spirit Award winners will receive considerable promotion to connect with readers and future patrons through SRQ MEDIA’s powerful engagement platforms.

We hope you will join us at GOOD | GALA to recognize and celebrate this year’s Independent Spirit Award (SRQISA) award winners. Tickets are on sale now at SRQGALA.COM—purchase online.

Reserve your VIP Harlequin Package online and join us at the private GOOD | GALA VIP Party at Sophie’s at Saks Fifth Avenue on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Kick off the season with stellar performances and a night of giving good!

Save the Date: SRQ Magazine Gala, October 8, 2016!

F-SRQGALA_SAVETHEDATE_Image

If you’ve ever been to an SRQ Magazine event, you know one thing: we love to throw awesome parties! Next October is far, far away. But that isn’t stopping us from planning our next major annual event, The SRQ Magazine Gala!

The SRQ Magazine Gala will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the historic Sarasota Opera House in the heart of Downtown Sarasota. Formerly known as Bal Masqué gala, this rebranded event presents a curated, one-night-only main stage performance showcasing an eclectic selection of regional arts and culture groups, incredible food, delicious cocktails for an evening like none other in Sarasota and Bradenton.

Our primary mission is to host an incredible night that celebrates the heartbeat of our city: the illuminating arts and cultural vibe that has long put Sarasota on the map. Regardless of where you decide to perch in the Opera House, be assured that you’ll only be an earshot away from fantastic music, live art and dance and theatrical performances.

For those who have attended Bal Masqué, you already know that the evening is extraordinarily special. Performances from various cultural disciplines grace one stage for the night for an artful show that can only be seen once. From heart pounding music to contemporary dance that makes you feel things about art and humanity, the main stage is home to something so special.

This year, we’re happy to announce that the VIP Club will feature exclusive opportunities housed on the third floor. If you’re already thinking of bringing your friends and celebrating the night together, this club is for you. The perks are perfect, including a pre-event kickoff and special arrangements throughout the evening including a private bar and food service, exclusive performances, reserved seating for optimal views of the stage and a designated club for members only.

Of course, we are excited about all of it – the planning process, artist selection, finding just the right decor . . . but can we talk about food for just a minute? The food. Team SRQ loves to eat. And we’re starting to gather the hottest culinary trends to create a destination menu.

If you only plan to live local once in the coming year, October 8, 2016 is it.

The SRQ Magazine Gala will continue to support local community organizations through a portion of ticket proceeds. Check back here to get sneak peeks, information about the artists and performances and for general excitement as the event draws closer.

For sponsor opportunities, contact Ashley Grant, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Ashley.Grant@srqme.com or 941-365-7702 x204. For more information about the VIP Club, contact Ashley.Ryan@srqme.com or 941-365-7702 x211.

2015 Bal Masque Performances Announced

On October 3rd, we have a lot to look forward to! At this year’s Bal Masqué: Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, we don’t know what we are most excited about—the food, the incredible venue, the music or seeing the gorgeous masks of our guest. One thing is for sure, we are on pins and needles to see this year’s performance!

Gracing the stage at Bal Masqué are three major acts that we know you will love!

Last year, the lyrical talent and fluid beauty of dance by Fuzion amazed guests. We are so happy to announce that they are coming back for another Bal Masqué. Expect incredible things. Part dramatic interpretation, part fluid movement, party storytelling, each performance by Fuzion is unique and we can’t wait to open the curtain for their performance this year.

Sarasota Circus Arts Conservatory always delivers a stunning performance. Not only are their performances beautiful, each performer’s level of skill, strength and talent is just astounding. Back by popular demand, an aerial performance that seems to defy gravity will be, in a word, mesmerizing.

Elegant costumes, precise yet graceful movement and expert choreography will be the showcased by the Sarasota Cuban Ballet. There’s a certain magic that happens on stage when pointe shoes, music and tulle mix under the lights of a theater. Don’t miss it.

Famous jazz legend Wynton Marsalis once said, “The bandstand is a sacred place.” We agree that there is something otherworldly about experiencing live music. In the spirit of creating an unforgettable evening, we’re planning on bringing the music down from the stage and amongst our guests. Before the doors of the auditorium open, the sounds of jazz by the Swingtide Combo will fill the expansive Sarasota Opera House. Outside in the courtyard, Jen&Ray’s melodies will serenade guests beneath the stars.

You won’t want to miss a moment of this year’s Bal Masqué. Tickets are available for purchase for $125 in advance or $150 at the door. Purchase yours now at SRQBALMASQUE.COM.

See you on October 3rd!

If you were at Bal Masqué last year, you already know. The night is like none other. Trying to pick out the highlight of the night is nearly impossible! Was it the masks, gorgeous gowns, dapper suits, incredible food or breathtaking performances? We can’t decide. If you need a refresher on your favorite part, check out a gallery of images here.

We’re so close to this year’s Bal Masqué: Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil that we can almost taste the shrimp and grits! On October 3rd, you can expect a few wonderful things. Lucky for you, we believe in sneak peeks!

Food
With a theme like Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, you can’t serve just anything. Only authentic, creative Southern food will do. A generous helping of classics (shrimp & grits, chicken & waffle sliders – and of course, you can’t throw an authentic Southern gathering without pimiento cheese) will be represented on the plate with creative offerings from Fete Catering. If you enjoyed the food last year, prepare yourself for an unforgettable culinary experience this year.

Libations
An event bar should have a little something special for everyone. A selection of wines, imported and local beers along with craft cocktails are planned for the evening. Recipes are in the works using fresh ingredients from Morton’s Market, Siesta Key Rum and Tito’s Handcrafted Vodka. Party tip: Bal Masqué boasts multiple bars! One in the courtyard and a designated service station on every floor, there’s no need to wait in line. Grab your friends and make your way upstairs and settle in for fantastic flavors until the performance begins.

Performance
We don’t think that performances should be limited to the main stage. In the spirit of a full evening of enchantment, musical acts will span the three floors of the Opera House and courtyard. When the curtain lifts in the auditorium at ten o’clock, mesmerizing acts from jaw-dropping aerialist routines to inspired dramatic dances round off the evening’s amusement.

 Helping a Great Cause
A portion of ticket sales benefit a local charitable organization of the purchaser’s choosing. As you plan your evening, know that your attendance directly supports critical missions within the community. This year, SRQ Media is proud to promote the nine worthy organizations:

Historic Venue
Take a step back in time to the grandeur of the 1920s at the historic Sarasota Opera House. Transformed into a stunning garden for the evening of Bal Masqué, the theater, grand foyer and mezzanines are a stunning display of glamour.

Masquerade
Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the element of mystery and excitement of this year’s Bal Masqué – the mask. Intricate, show-stopping, feathered, adorned with dazzling jewels and shimmering sequins…we can’t get enough! Reserved for special occasions, donning a mask adds an element of fanfare and interest into this signature gala.

SRQ Bal Masqué is one month away! Now is the perfect time to plan your outfit and select your most important accessory for the evening: the mask. Lucky for those planning to attend, there’s a shop in downtown Sarasota that has an incredible selection of authentic Venetian masks in every look and color imaginable. i tesori is a swoon-worthy boutique along First Street owned by Anthony Vento that always feels cool and fresh, like stepping into an air-conditioned oasis on a hot July day. Full of flowing of-the-moment fashions for men and women, Anthony is proud to carry an authentic array of Italian masks.

“For last year’s Bal Masqué, I almost sold out. This year, I have a higher inventory with some new looks,” said Vento. Each mask in i tesori is imported from Venice, so shoppers can trust that their purchases are as authentic as they are artistic. Anthony personally selects each one from a mask maker in Italy that specializes in hand-designed, artfully crafted pieces. Having a family friend in the business, Anthony is the unofficial mask expert of Sarasota.

The selection at i tesori includes delicate metal masks with unreal detail. “Each one is laser cut and the glitter is hand applied,” said Anthony. If  you’re looking for something a bit more traditional, he offers a wide selection of masks made from paiper måché as well. “A carved wooden mold is used to shape the mask when wet. Once they’re dry, artisans paint and embellish them with glitter, gold leaf, lace or Swarovski crystals.”

This year, Anthony has increased his inventory with more men’s masks and Phantom of the Opera style.

Masks at i tesori range in price from $39.00 – $150.00. While a few styles can be found on his website, Anthony recommends coming to i tesori to ensure a perfect fit and comfortable mask that you’ll want to wear for the duration of the night at Bal Masqué.

For more information on masks, pricing and hours, contact i tesori at (941) 907-9296 or visit the shop on First Street and Central next to Starbucks in the heart of downtown Sarasota.
