Sometimes good news puts a smile on your face. Today, we heard something that did just that, and our whole team has been grinning all afternoon. Former SB2 keynote speaker and renown landscape architect Thomas Balsley was just announced as the recipient of the 2015 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Design Medal.
Awarded annually to a landscape architect for an entire body of exceptional design work spanning at least ten years, the ASLA Design Medal is a prestigious honor. Joining the ranks of some of the most notable landscape architects in America, Tom’s portfolio of projects represent the magic of public parks when paired with thoughtful design. Among some of Tom’s recent design projects is Curtis Hixon Park along Tampa’s Urban Downtown.
This past March, Tom presented a keynote address and shared insights on waterfront parks that successfully merge public-private spaces and have transformed the way people enjoy and utilize parks at the SB2 series at The Francis in Downtown Sarasota produced at SRQ | The Magazine. He was joined by Johnette Isham of Realize Bradenton, Drayton Saunders of Bayfront 20:20 and Dave Gustafson of the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority to discuss the future of the Sarasota Bayfront and successful waterfronts in the region.
If you’re interested in learning more about Tom and his incredible career, you’re in luck! The inaugural issue of Modern Home Magazine (the newest addition of the SRQ Media family of publications) includes a feature story all about him. Modern Home Magazine is produced as a special edition of SRQ Magazine’s July 2015 edition. Pick up your copy on July 1st at area newsstands. Our team got creative with how to present two magazines under one cover!
Congratulations Tom! The SRQ team can’t think of a person more deserving. Enjoy this incredible honor.
