As if SRQ Media’s Bal Masqué wasn’t exciting enough already, Lisl Liang, CEO, President of SRQ | The Magazine, is delighted to introduce Olan Quattro as our featured artist who will be creating original works for silent auction at the event.
Born in the artistic community of San Luis Obispo, California, Quattro was destined for a life as an artist. She fulfilled this destiny by going on to study art in France, Mexico and the United States, specifically obtaining her Masters in Art Education from Florida State University. Throughout her years discovering her artistic abilities, she became a mixed media artist, specializing in collage work that borrows from post-modernistic ideals.
Currently, Quattro enjoys working in the realm of using fashion magazines as her medium. This spawned from receiving Vogue’s September Issue in the mail and deciding that creating an original image from each double-sided page would pose a great artistic challenge and reward.
“Paper is my palette and my muse,” said Quattro. “I break down each page into color squares, which inform each piece.”
With each snip of the scissors, Quattro is able to breathe new life into each page. Her favorite images to create are of men and women and foliage.
Quattro’s innovative work has been featured in many art festivals and gallery showings across the country, including a showing at Atelier Gallery during Charleston, S.C.’s Fashion Week. She has since made Sarasota her home and teaches art at Sarasota Academy of the Arts.
Having previously designed from fashion magazines, Quattro wanted to do something different, something local, and her sense was that SRQ | The Magazine has that local presence.
For SRQ Bal Masqué, Quattro will create four collages (approximately 36”x 60”), crafted entirely out of select past editions of SRQ Magazine. These original and one of a kind pieces will be available exclusively via silent auction at SRQ Bal Masqué. Stay tuned for updates on her progress that we will share on SRQ Inside The Brand, SRQ Magazine on Facebook, and @SRQChirps.
