On Wednesday, December 11, SRQ celebrated our holiday party and the grand opening of our newly renovated office space. Our publisher, Wes Roberts made it official by cutting the ribbon, surrounded by the SRQ staff, Chamber president, Steve Queior, and vice president of membership, Heather Kasten. Fortified with champagne and wine from Bijou Cafe, delectable appetizers from Michaels on East and friends from around the community, the event had a great turnout and proved to be an especially festive occasion. Our art manager, Evan Sigmund got some great shots of guests, who were pleasantly surprised to see a slide show of photos streaming live immediately after the pictures were taken. We would like to thank everyone for their attendance and support in helping to make this event such a big success.

SM2: Regional Sports Innovation

IMG_3446

On Thursday, November 21, SRQ magazine hosted the second event in its 2013-14 series of SM2: Regional Collaboration breakfast symposiums on working to attract, grow and diversify the sports and health innovation industry. This gathering of approximately 100+ regional leaders and entrepreneurs throughout Sarasota and Manatee County generated synergies on efforts both counties are making to support sports innovation. During the discussion, the audience received insight on opportunities for regional collaboration between Sarasota and Manatee Counties for current and future development in the sports and health innovation industry. The collaborative mix of perspectives from panelists Chris Ciaccio, Elliott Falcione, Nicole Rissler and Patrick Calhoon catalyzed a comprehensive and enlightening discussion.

Two of our panelists provided some great feedback on the event:

“It is truly great to see the collaboration and enthusiasm between both counties regarding our sports segment business and how many acknowledge this segment as vital to our economic sustainability.”

 – Elliott Falcione, Executive Director of Bradenton Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

“I thought it was a very diverse group of attendees that were interested in learning about what Sports Tourism is doing for our region. My hope is that they all left with at least one piece of information that can help their business take advantage of this growing economic driver.”

Nicole Rissler, Director of Sports of Sarasota County Sports Commission

The next event in the 2013-14 series of breakfast symposiums, SM2: Regional Healthcare and Aging, takes place on Thursday, January 16, 2013 at The Francis (7:30am-9:00am). Tickets are $35/person and available online at SRQSM2.com (ticket price includes full breakfast buffet).
